Cross Lake

A Luxury Smart Home Project

Project Intro

Our work for the Crosslake Home included Savant home automation, home entertainment, smart blinds, security and surveillance, enterprise-grade networking, whole home lighting and shading, outdoor audio, and more. We invite you to keep reading to explore the awe-inspiring final results of our efforts and get a better idea for the types of installations we do in the Edina and Plymouth area.

Security and Surveillance

Honeywell security and IC Realtime cameras were set up to monitor every corner of the house. Our clients have their children, their children’s friends, and young relatives running around the property. They want to ensure that they have 24/7 eyes on high-risk areas like the pool and hot tub. Additionally, the lake house backs up into a harbor. With smart surveillance, the family receives alerts when unknown visitors are entering the harbor.

Savant Home Control

Savant home automation is the brain powering this gorgeous luxury home in the Edina and Plymouth area. At ResTech Systems, we love Savant due to its ease of use and streamlined, elegant interface design. Our clients now have multiple ways to manage and adjust their home technologies. We installed wall-mounted touchscreens for the family to easily view and control AV, lighting, smart blinds, security, surveillance, and entry access. Additionally, we mounted several on-wall keypads for one-touch access to lighting settings and favorite scenes around the house. And finally, anyone in the family can access the Savant home from the Pro App on their smartphones.

Enterprise-Grade Networking

Our clients entertain frequently and often have extended family over to spend time at the lake house. We installed an enterprise-grade network using Luxul components and Ruckus Wi-Fi technology to support numerous smartphones, entertainment systems, and connected devices that will be active when large groups of people are over. An enterprise-grade solution has the bandwidth, memory, traffic prioritization, and processing power to ensure that everyone has robust wireless coverage no matter where they are in the house.

Lighting and Shading

We want our clients to feel comfortable at home with dimmable lighting, automated window treatments, and indoor temperature control. Our team installed QMotion motorized shades to keep the sun’s heat and glare out, protect interior furnishings and décor, and allow the family their privacy. We also installed Vantage lighting control with low-brightness dimming capabilities so that the family can adjust indoor lighting to a comfortable level for every occasion.

Halfway through the project, our clients decided they wanted motorized shades on the back porch too. The problem? We hadn’t wired for them because the client hadn’t brought it up during the planning phase. Our elegant solution was to install SI exterior motorized shades powered by a long-lasting lithium battery. Now the family can enjoy time on the patio with protective shades for privacy and sun protection.

Home Entertainment

Our clients entertain A LOT. Their teenage children often have friends over, and the family frequently invites extended family members to spend time at the lake house. Therefore, they needed multiple entertainment options to satisfy guests of all ages.

First up, we designed a dedicated home theater with a Sony projector, Stewart projection screen, Paradigm speakers, JL Audio subwoofers, and color-changing DMX lighting for an immersive movie-watching experience. Next, we installed a Full Swing golf simulator that’s sure to provide hours of entertainment. Finally, we installed a landscape audio system with Ambisonic speakers to bring high-performance sound to outdoor parties, pool days, and barbecues.

    Maxwell Bay

A Perfect Marriage of Design & Technology

    Project Intro

ResTech Systems recently wrapped another custom home for a client in Minnesota: the Maxwell Bay project! We spent months working with various trade partners on the project to integrate whole home automation, lighting and shading solutions, smart home security, a dedicated home theater, and a central vacuum system into our client’s luxury estate.

    Technology Goals

Our client had one overarching goal for the Maxwell Bay house: a fully automated home that was easy to use. They wanted simplified, app-driven control that allowed anyone in the family to shut off the house or power it on with a single button press.

Luckily, Savant is more than capable of unifying large estates and multiple systems under a centralized operating platform. With Savant, the client can control everything in the house using the Savant Pro mobile app. Additionally, we installed several wall-mounted keypads for easy, one-touch access to lighting and other frequently used scenes.

    Design Goals

Along with simplicity of use, our client wanted simplicity of design with discreet systems and devices that blended seamlessly with the home décor. For ResTech Systems, achieving the client’s design vision meant collaborating with the builder, interior designer, and other trade professionals from the very beginning of the project to integrate hidden technology solutions into the house.

Our team worked with the HVAC contractor to relocate nine wall-mounted thermostats and replace them with inconspicuous temperature sensors painted to match the surrounding walls, removing unnecessary clutter while still ensuring intuitive climate control. We also worked with a contractor to build custom wood pockets that conceal the home’s motorized shades while still providing easy access for servicing.

The client benefited from bringing our team in early to work with the other trades on-site at the Maxwell Bay house. Using a collaborative process, we were able to install the smart solutions our client desired while reducing technology clutter and maintaining the home’s beautiful interior design.

    Solutions

We installed whole home automation with Savant and multiple technology subsystems to make our client’s lifestyle more comfortable and easier to maintain.

    • A central vacuum system from VACUFLO keeps the Maxwell Bay home looking and feeling clean, healthy, and dust-free.
    • Camouflaged temperatures probes maintain a comfortable temperature in every room based on the family’s preferences and the outside weather.
    • Vantage lighting control with toe kick lighting and occupancy sensors plus motorized shades from QMotion ensure the house is always illuminated to the client’s desires.
    • Honeywell security and IC Realtime cameras proactively protect the family and property.
    • Paradigm’s landscape speakers and retractable outdoor shades from Progressive Screens turn the backyard into a relaxing oasis.
    • A dedicated home theater with a Sony projector provides hours of entertainment for the whole family.
    • An enterprise-grade network from Luxul and Ruckus keeps the Maxwell Bay house functioning without interruption.

      Sumiko

Best-in-Class Projectors, Screens, and Home Automation

      Project Intro

Sumiko is the leading importer and distributor of hi-end audio products in North America, and the home theater is a part of their showroom near Plymouth, MN. They wanted a space that offered their clients the experience that a home theater with high-quality audio-video equipment provides. Let’s explore the results.

      The Edgeless Screen

Some view the selection of screens as an afterthought, but they are critically important to the final image and the aesthetics of a media room or home theater. For those of you who have seen Screen Innovations hand-built edgeless screen, you understand the difference and the remarkable image it evokes. The screen sits off the wall by about 1.5-inches and looks like an extremely thin, enormous, and floating flat-screenTV. The wall gap is for the backlit LED lighting that illuminates in virtually any color and brightness level and offers a striking visual.

The silver-colored screen is made up of a micro texture surface that is nine times finer and smoother than normal screen materials. This means that, with Sony’s 4K premium laser projector, you’ll experience sharp and crisp images even with ambient light.

      The Perfect Picture

To obtain a crystal-clear image that appears to pop off the screen, we incorporated the Sony VPL-GTZ380 projector. Sony offers some of the best projectors on the market, in large part due to their experience on both sides of the fence—as producers of over 3,500 movies and 12 Best Picture Academy Award winners and as premier electronics manufacturers. They know what directors and producers expect when their film hits the big screen, and they deliver!

The VPL-GTZ380 represents Sony’s premium laser projector. Due to its 10,000-lumen brightness and unique 3-channel laser light source, it offers brilliant images with striking realism. It utilizes Sony’s X1 Ultimate processor that provides real-time enhancement for every scene, analyzing each one for precise dynamic tone mapping of HDR content.

The result is strikingly impressive images with rich colors, deep blacks, and bright, vivid detail.

      Controlled By Savant

The home entertainment system is controlled by Savant home automation. The system offers the ultimate in customizable options. One tap on a smartphone app or handheld remote and the lights dim, while the film and audio begin.

At our client’s homes, we regularly create customized scenes. For example, one touch may lower the projector from the ceiling, start the audio, dim the lights, lower the blackout shades, and lock the front door. Almost anything is possible with this smart home brand. At ResTech Systems, we get excited about using the latest innovations to create the best entertainment with premium smart home products and systems. But, more importantly, we get excited about sharing the possibilities with our clients and ensuring the results exceed their expectations. We’re here to create the smart home and entertainment that meshes with your needs and stays within your budget.
