Crosslake Home Deep Dive: Smart Lighting and Shading

QMotion Interior Shades

With a motorized shades installation, our primary goal was to envelop the home and family in a layer of protection: from the sun’s heat and glare, damaging UV rays, and prying eyes. Energy-efficient motorized shades help our client conserve energy and protect the environment as well. 

We brought in a whisper-quiet, wired QMotion system for all the indoor windows. We love QMotion for their patented manual override feature, range of light-filtering and room-darkening shade styles, and seamless integration with Savant automation (the brain of our client’s smart home). 

QMotion shades do so much more than cover the windows at the Crosslake Home. Our client can close the shades on hot days to prevent indoor heat gain and protect artwork and furniture from the sun’s damaging effects. Alternatively, sunny days present the opportunity to open the blinds and let natural sunlight filter into the house. Our clients have easy control over the lighting and privacy in their home with the press of a button on a smartphone or wall-mounted tablet. 

Screen Innovations Exterior Shades

Midway through the project, we hit a complication: our client decided they wanted to add exterior motorized shades to their patio. The problem was that we hadn’t wired the home to include outdoor shading. 

Luckily, Screen Innovations was here to save the day. Their wireless outdoor shade solution is driven by a powerful lithium battery that can last up to two years on a single charge. Once installed, SI exterior shades create a completely sealed living space and keep our clients cool, comfortable, and bug-free while they’re relaxing on the back patio. 

Like QMotion, SI integrates seamlessly with Savant, enabling our clients to have perfect control over their outdoor shades from a smartphone. 

Vantage Lighting Control

Lighting serves so many fundamental roles in a home: task illumination, safety, comfort, energy management, and ambiance, to name a few. We outfitted the Crosslake Home with a luxury lighting system by Vantage for beautiful aesthetics and easy, automated lighting control. Our clients can adjust their home lights with low-brightness dimming capabilities, create customized lighting scenes, and control multiple lights with the press of a single button.

We installed wall-mounted keypads throughout the home with custom buttons for our clients’ most-used lighting settings. With one touch, our client can add illumination and ambiance to the wine cellar, pool table, home theater, and other dynamic spaces. Additionally, the family can control the lights from a smartphone or tablet.

The custom builder on this project — Land’s End Development — was an integral part of the lighting and shading design and installation process. Our teams worked closely to overcome complications and deliver on our client’s high expectations.
