Sumiko Project Deep Dive: The 2-Channel Audio System
Experience the 3-Dimensional Soundscape Provided by a 2-Channel Audio System
In this, our final deep dive into the Sumiko project, we’re exploring the 2-channel audio demo we incorporated into their showroom just north of Minnetonka, MN. As with all things Sumiko, we integrated a system with audio-purist quality gear—an audiophile’s dream. Let’s see how it turned out and what 2-channel audio systems can offer your home.

2-Channel Audio Defined
Today, with the advancement in technology, a lot of attention gets focused on surround sound systems. After all, experiencing that immersive sound field is critical to the design of a home theater in search of the ultimate cinematic experience.
But, for the audio purist, 2-channel audio offers sound the way the creator intended and, with the right equipment, may be as close to pure sound reproduction as it gets. It creates a dynamic, impressive three-dimensional soundscape that replicates a live performance. For example, you might hear the drummer on the right side of the room, the keyboards on the left, and the vocalist center stage.
While these systems are composed of several components, the speakers have the greatest impact on the sound.
The Speakers
In Sumiko’s showroom, we turned to Sonus faber speakers, one of the highest quality audio brands on the market. This world-renowned company began in the hills of Northern Italy in 1983, building speakers by hand, a practice that continues to this day.
The result is a natural listening experience derived, in part, from their cabinet design, intricate drivers, and advanced crossover design circuitry. That is their goal—replicating sound as close to its natural creation. This means hearing every sound, not just in the main vocals and guitar riffs, but in the subtle harmony and each independent note. One of their core innovative technologies is the Damped Apex Dome tweeter, which allows for the ultimate reproduction of high frequencies.
The Equipment
Audiophiles will also appreciate the full Rotel and McIntosh rack we integrated at Sumiko. Founded in 1949, McIntosh is known for creating home audio systems that offer the ultimate experience in music and film for the most discriminate listener. Their products are handcrafted in their Binghamton, NY factory. They have been called upon to deliver high-performance music at Grateful Dead concerts and the landmark music festival known as Woodstock.
Rotel began their journey into high-fidelity equipment in 1961 in Tokyo. Today, they provide a wide range of high-performance audio components that deliver the detail and power as the artist intended.
The Control
The 2-channel audio system and home theater are both controlled by a Savant home automation system. With one touch, clients can choose to experience the world of surround sound and cinematic wonder, and with another tap, they engage in the live-concert feel of 2-channel audio. It doesn’t get much better.
At ResTech Systems, we integrate the latest technology with premier home automation systems to deliver unrivaled ease of living and enjoyment.
